Getting around Taveuni by public bus is the cheapest and easiest way to see Taveuni. However, normally, the buses only run three times a day, (except Sundays), which can often provide an inconvenience if you miss your timing for your ride. If unsure ask a local, what time the bus arrives. Most locals are well versed on this.

All the buses start from the main town of Naqara and travel either north to Matei Point and beyond to Lavena village in the south-east of the island or south to Navakawau (past Vuna).

The buses are the traditional open-windowed buses found throughout Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, (shown below).

The bus ride around the island may take as long as about 4-5 hours, if you are lucky enough to connect the two buses, for your journey.
